I read today that leading psychiatrists at a conference at Yale University “argued that Trump suffers from a particularly malignant case of pathological narcissism, which makes him a danger to the country and the world.

“Worse than just being a liar or a narcissist, in addition he is paranoid, delusional and grandiose thinking and he proved that to the country the first day he was president,” Gartner [one of the psychiatrists] explained. “If Donald Trump really believes he had the largest crowd size in history, that’s delusional.” Read about that here.

  Dr. John Gartner

It is uncharacteristic of professionals in that field to make such statements, but another of them, Dr. Bandy Lee, said that Trump, as a result of his mental health condition, poses extraordinary threats that have led them to speak out.

What do we citizens do in this case?  I have been contacting elected officials and asking for impeachment of Trump.  I protested outside Trump tower (post about that on this blog).  Is there more I should do?  What are you doing about all this?  Please feel free to share on this blog about it if you care to.

In an article on Common Dreams on Thursday, 20 April 2017, you can read the following:

“Despite the lack of information from the Pentagon about President Donald Trump’s deployment on April 13 of the ‘Mother of All Bombs’ in Afghanistan—or its aftermath—close to 70 percent of American voters say they ‘strongly’ or ‘somewhat’ support the bombing, according to a new poll.” Read about that here.

Children ride by debris from US bombings in Afghanistan

I want to go on record as being an American who strongly disapproves of that bombing.

Congress did empower the president to pursue al-Qaida in Afghanistan in 2001 in an effort against those who were said to have attacked the US on September 11 of that year. [There is still uncertainty about who did attack the World Trade Center at that time.] Unlike Trump’s bombing in Syria however, it might be claimed that there was congressional approval for bombing in Afghanistan.

Still, that authorization was very long ago and hardly seems appropriate today. If Afghanistan ever did attack the US (which is certainly not clear), it has not done harm to this country in many years. It is rather the US that has done massive harm to Afghanistan, a small and poor state.

As a US citizen, I do not want our tax dollars to pay for aggression on Afghanistan. There was a call from three Afghans, Seelai Popal, Ali A. Olomi, and Laila Rashidie “for people of conscience in the U.S. to step forward and demand an end to the murder of the Afghan people and the poisoning of our land. The terrorism waged by the U.S. and its allies in the name of the ‘war on terror’ far outstrips the violence of those they claim to fight. It is time for the global community to demand that all militaries stop using our people and our lands as testing grounds for war and weaponry.”

I am responding to that call; I am demanding the end of the murder of the Afghan people and the poisoning of their land by the United States. I demand that the US stop using the Afghan people and their land as testing ground for war and weaponry.

I have now sent letters to all 100 senators requesting that they work with the members of the House of Representatives to initiate impeachment proceedings against Trump.

It remains to be seen what if any response there will be to that request.  What is sure is that I will not go to my grave having failed to do with I can in this matter.

Here is a link to a report about Trump’s very low level of support.

I continue to contact my senators and congressional representative with demands for his impeachment and removal from office.  His recent bombing without congressional approval is certainly an impeachable offense.

Trump has bombed Syria.

“Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.), who cast the sole dissenting vote against the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) in 2001, tweeted Thursday, ‘This is an act of war. Congress needs to come back into session [and] hold a debate. Anything less is an abdication of our responsibility.’

“The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) likewise tweeted, ‘Syria chemical attacks were horrendous. Yet our response can’t violate Constitution, which requires Congress’ approval for military force.’

By implication, Trump’s action violated the Constitution.

The quotations above are from an article you can read here and they are indications of the horror many of us in the United States are feeling at the barbarism of Trump’s action.  They also show us that Trump may be acting illegally.

Civil defense team members and others try to rescue those trapped under the debris of a Mosque after an aerial attack on it during prayer in the Cina village of Etarib district of Aleppo, Syria on March 16, 2017

What can we do to stop the monster in the White House?  I have written to my Senators and Congressional Representative (who often oppose Trump’s actions anyway) in order to encourage them to take action.  I am glad to see huge numbers of Americans rising up in protest.  I would love to see impeachment proceedings.

Robert Reich published an article today listing four good reasons to impeach Trump and a possible fifth.

You can read that article here.

Briefly, these four reasons are:

  1. Trump is accusing his predecessor of an illegal and impeachable act without evidence
  2. In violation of Section 9 of the Constitution, Trump is accepting things of value from foreign governments
  3. By banning travel by Muslims to the US, Trump is failing to respect the freedom of religion
  4. By labeling the press “the enemy of the people” and by denying access to some members of the press, including those from the New York Times, Trump is abridging freedom of the press granted by the Constitution

If Reich can see these reasons, I am hopeful that our congressional representatives can as well and will act on this.

Robert Reich

Please read the four reasons on Reich’s article linked above and spread them.

I have read at least two articles today that liken things in the Trump USA to those in Hitler’s Germany.  Scary. The most recent contains this:

“Depriving vulnerable people of health care [as a result of the proposed Republican health care plan] is disturbingly reminiscent of the Nazi-era “Lebensunwertes Leben”—Life Unworthy Of Life, based on certain groups being a drain on resources and thus disposable to the people in power. It’s a harsh interpretation of a troubled time in America. But it’s an apt description of reality. Health care is a human right, not just a privilege for those with money. The merciless attacks on low-income health care programs effectively condemn thousands of people to an early death.”

The above from the article here.

The author is Paul Buchheit, an advocate for social and economic justice, who wrote “Disposable Americans” which was published this year.

                                    Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual doom. “

Martin Luther King warned us decades ago of the dangers of spending our national resources on the military.  The resulting effects on education and healthcare, especially compared to other developed countries is striking.  Some education in the United States is among the best in the world, but many people here suffer from the low level of education available to them.  Some people, especially those who have  large financial resources, receive the best health care; large numbers of people in the United States have none.

The money the government spends on the military would make a vast difference and would put the US on a par with other developed countries in these regards.  Instead of a lifetime of college debt, our young people could, as I did in France, pay $25.00 a year for university.  No one would be bankrupted by a medical emergency or condition.  I spent two months in the hospital in France where one of the best surgeons on the planet took care of me.  The total cost for two surgical interventions and all other expenses including meals for my sister was $6,000.00, about the cost of a weekend in the hospital in the US at the time.

Things do not have to be this way in the United States. We can, even at this late date, heed Dr. King’s warning.

Ivanka Trump, who now has an official position in the White House, had to disclose assets (astronomical of course), which include clothing and jewelry lines.  I refer you once again to the post below on this blog about stores that sell Trump products.  I for one want to be especially vigilant not to shop at any of them.  There are other places where I can buy what I need and want.

I had never set foot in the H&M department store on Fifth Avenue until last week, but I found it to be a good place that I shall frequent instead of Macy’s which it is close to. I bought a nice pair of gloves there having lost mine last week.

I wrote earlier to the executive in charge of the Macy’s store in NYC. I am not an avid shopper, but I have in all my years in NYC bought clothing items there and I have an account with them. So far I have received no reply.

I will write to executives of all the places in NYC that sell Ivanka’s products.

These actions may seem futile gestures.  Still I can know that I am not contributing in any way to the depredations of the Trump family.

Here is the link to the article below on this blog which indicates stores in NYC that sell Trump products:
